Ickk

That's how I feel. That's how little P feels now too. Promptly following Patrick's party on Sunday I came down with the dreaded summer cold, just in time for the best weather of the year. Patrick got sick two days later and we are now miserable together. Normally I wouldn't care, but we have big weekend plans that involve some travel and I am less than enthused right now to even think about trying to pack. The house is a MESS since I have had no energy and laundry is piled up. Thank goodness dad has stepped in to help out and has been scrubbing bottles and cleaning up the kitchen each night. We are all praying he stays healthy at least...

Once I get more energy I'll post some birthday pictures. Stay healthy and Happy Memorial Day weekend!

Oh, and Patrick received his first walking wound- he knocked his head off the toy box corner and has a gash over his right eye and a black eye. Thank goodness it wasn't too deep. He and I will be looking our finest at Tom's college reunion.

Gee, Bert

I was determined to make Patrick's first birthday cake one to remember. After deciding on an Ernie theme (Patrick has a little Ernie doll that he knows by name), I searched online pictures of Ernie cakes only to discover that Elmo really has the cake monopoly. So Patrick's doll became my inspiration. Everything on Ernie was edible-I used black licorice for his hair, a ginormous jawbreaker covered in colored fondant for his nose, and rolled fondant for the eyes completed by a whopper cut in half for each of his pupils. Of course, Ernie had to be 3 dimensional, so I used two rectangular cake pans of white cake to create the football shaped head and then sculpted the top of his mouth that sat up higher than the rest of the cake. Colored orange frosting completed everything. Patrick seemed to approve and I am proud of my first character cake! Happy early birthday little guy!

No Monkey Business

P and H had their second chaperoned date at the zoo in late April and I am not sure whether they were more interested in the fish, or each other. We had a great time.

Run Forrest, Run

This week marked a big change in Patrick's hesitance to really venture around on two's and he has been walking on his own more and more. My back thanks him.

In other big news, Tom and I are under contract on a house! If all goes smoothly, we'll be moving in mid-June (uggh and double uggh to the moving part). We are staying in the same area as our rental house, so at least we won't be hauling our stuff too far.

I have also decided to extend Mother's Day to Mother's Month- it just has a better ring to it.

Mother's Day 2010

Sleeping in until 8:30-glorious. Watching my husband change Patrick's big morning poopy diaper-amusing. Having my coffee brought to me as I am blogging-blissful. Who cares about the dreary cold weather awaiting us outside, I am enjoying my morning.

Some good news is coming next week-check back!
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms and my dear moms-to-be-one-day-soon...

LOST: My good little eater. If found, please return.

One day in early to mid April, a switch went off in my little angel's head and he went from eating anything to not wanting to eat a thing. He takes two bites then flails his hands around and sticks food in his hair. I quit putting him in the bath every time that happened about a week into the eating tantrums. I just wipe the food out of his hair with a paper towel now.

Can't wait to start weaning him off the pacifier in another month. I'll have to start hiding alcohol around the house :) A great video if you like tantrums.

A Grown-Up Night Out

I have always loved to get dressed up, but now even more so when one takes into account how little we go out these days. Tom's college friends (who live here in Pittsburgh) invited us to a benefit dinner for the Pittsburgh Kids Foundation ( a great cause that helps kids in the area attend Christian summer camps). It was held at an AMAZING home and we met some some great people.

My most handsome husband...
